Living Expectantly

Living Expectantly

Have you ever had one of those experiences where you don’t even realize something exists until somebody points it out to you, then you start seeing it everywhere? That can be similar to seeing God at work in our lives. It’s so easy to go about our lives and ignore the very real presence of God in our everyday life.

Some Christians have a little more spiritual acuity than others, and they see God and His omnipresence all around them. They thank God for the sun, for electricity, for good health, etc. This is good, and an essential part of living a grateful life. It’s not enough, however.

What we all need is to live expectantly. Not just seeing the hand of God at work in a general sense but living in a way that seeks God out in specific ways. We should all be living lives that show clearly our desperate dependence on the Holy Spirit. If someone were to follow us around for a day, it should be clear that without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, the way we live would be impossible.

What would our lives look like if we truly sought God in every area of our life; if every day before we walk into work we pray over our workday and ask God for opportunities to be light? What would our lives look like if we then spent the whole day expectantly looking for that opportunity that God was going to give us?

The Word of God is clear:

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

This is not a passive and half-hearted pursuit. This is an all-in, sold-out pursuit. This scripture tells us we’ll find God when we seek Him with ALL of our heart, not if we just try to tailor our Christian persona to fit our other social circles.

Will you seek Him with all your heart and experience the joy of regularly finding the manifest presence of God in your day? That’s up to you.
