The Christmas tree is up. The house decorations have begun. Trans-Siberian Orchestra is currently playing Christmas music. IT’S CHRISTMAS TIME!!!
Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. I love all that is Christmas and everything related to Christmas. I love the decorations, I love the music, I love what the season does to everyone, even those who want nothing to do with Christ.
Some of us know what the season of Advent is about. Some of us have no idea what Advent is or what it’s about. Very few of us know the true history of Advent. It was always about the expectation that Jesus would come to earth. In the beginning, however, it had more to do with His second coming than His first coming.
Only later was Advent tied to Jesus coming to earth as a baby. Now we start Advent the 4th Sunday before Christmas. It’s meant to bring to remembrance the miracle that Christ would come in human form to take away the sins of mankind.
This Christmas season, let’s not get carried away with the things Christmas isn’t about. Let’s remember why it is we celebrate this holiday every year and the amazing miracle of Christ coming to save us from our sin. Let us take the time to reflect and appreciate the beautiful truth of this holiday!
41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”” – Luke 10:41–42 (ESV)
Let us choose the good portion this year instead of being anxious about gifts and travel and family.
