“7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” – 1 Timothy 1:7
Many people who have tried to kick a bad habit know trying to stop doing something without replacing it with a healthy habit is much more difficult and will many times lead to failure. It’s helpful to replace the bad habit with something good or productive.
When we look at this verse, it’s not just a discouragement against fear. It’s an encouragement toward power, love, and self-control. We’re not running away from something, we’re running toward something; Jesus.
If you find yourself struggling with fear, remember the thing that casts out fear is perfect love. Jesus is the only place we can find perfect love. No human being can offer that to us. We must learn to run to our Abba Father when we are feeling overwhelmed or pushed back and be comforted in His arms.
